Tuesday 13th March – 16:00 Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase

 

The 2012 Cross Country Handicap Chase is the 5th race to take place on Day 1 of the 2012 Cheltenham Festival. It is run on the Cross Country course at Cheltenham over a distance of 3 miles and 7 furlongs and contains 32 fences that have to be cleared.  The fences are made of natural objects including ditches, hedges, banks and water.

The race is open to any horse aged 5 years and older. This race was only added to the Cheltenham Festival in 2005 and the race itself is one of only three that races that are run on the Cheltenham Cross Country Course each year.

-          Irish horses have won all 7 Cross Country Chase races so far, with 4 of these 7 winners trained by Enda Bolger and all trained for JP McManus’ stable

-          All previous winners have been between 9 and 12 years old

-          Six out of Seven winners have been placed previously at Cheltenham

-          Six out of the Seven winners have won previously over 3 miles or more
